My First Shots

Still don’t know what I’m doing with my beautiful piece of equipment (i.e. Canon T2i). Probably won’t for awhile, but here are a few shots from an event we had at the restaurant I work at.

Disclaimer: worst lighting in the history of photo taking…why not start with those conditions, right?!

Love Cocktail

Hey there, Reader-Friends!

It’s link up time with Jamie for WILW!
WILW

I’m loving that as I type this post I am enjoying a yummy strawberry-banana yogurt smoothie in a fun cocktail glass (no alcohol, promise! It’s not even 9 am!). See!

I’m loving that my first class of the day is COOKING and happens to not be until 11 o’ clock! Poor roomie has an 8 o’clock. I will tell of your sympathy for her. However, I was up and at ‘em (is that the phrase? That’s what it sounds like at least) along with the roomie this morning because of this next love

I’m loving that I’m back to working out!
I walked three miles this morning. I hope to be back to running soon because there are 5k's around the corner! And Monday I start X-Fit (my school’s version of P90x).

I’m loving that my first day of senior year of college was FANTASTIC! Usually, the first day of school is pure strenuous hell for me. It’s the day that everything seems to go wrong i.e. locking my keys in my car (last year’s highlight). But not this year! Smooth sailing and smiles all day!

I’m loving, loving, loving to be back around all of my friends! I have such a miniscule social life this summer I could cry. But the group has been reunited “and it feels so good!”

Wake-Up Call

{Yawn} Oh hey, Reader-Friends!

How did you sleep last night? Well, I sure hope it was a more restful night for you than it was for me! Ya’ll, the single loudest thunderstorm in history hit my little college town in the wee hours of the morning.

via

You can imagine how thrilled I was to be wide-eyed at 4 a.m., especially since my alarm was scheduled to ring about an hour or so from then. God bless! My roommate wasn’t stirring, and Jon, whose bed is positioned against a window definitely was sound asleep, thus leaving my rant-texts un-answered. But lo and behold, after a quick glance at the online weather radar to see when I would be able to fall asleep again, I found just about the whole town (besides my roommate and boyfriend, of course) updating Fb and Twitter statuses. It’s always nice to feel that you’re not alone.

Here are a few anonymous storm statuses from last night:

4:30 AM & we're all awake. Loudest thunderstorm I've heard in a long time! Sounds like an African rainstick concert at a bowling tournament~

Lightning through my windows here is probably one of the scariest things ever! #needcurtains

I love storms but not when i'm trying to sleep and i have to be up soon anyway.

Not crazy about this thunderstorm right now!!

man it is poppin!

I love thunderstorms!!!!

And my bad attitude tweet:

Well, this blows. So much for a good nights sleep.

And my FB status:

Hello, Mr. Thunderstorm. I guess you haven't heard how I really needed sleep b/c tomorrow is the first day of school for the students AND I have to get up at the crack of dawn. You are SO rude! Meh.

And the very true status of one of my besties:

Jesus is LOUD tonight in Cleveland...at times like these, I'm very thankful that I'm on the same team of the God who is rattling my windows with thunder and illuminating my room with lightning..biggg God, litttttle human...wowww

Amen? In the middle of all my annoyance, I found a reason to praise God. That statement is actually a pretty good description of my life lately. It seems so common for us to forget the authority, and power, and presence of God in our lives when we become self-absorbed. Sometimes God sends a storm to wake us up. Big, big God. And he is there, in our storms, and in our sunshine.

"Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours." (1 Chronicles 29:11)

P.S. If you haven’t heard, this blog’s first birthday is in just a few days, and I’m giving away a gift. Please join the party and enter here!

Unexpected

Oh my, Reader-Friends!

It’s been an intense few days! I made it to Cleveland Sunday night. Yesterday, as I was gearing up for a day of hard cleaning (actually, I was about to write a Monday post), I received an ever so pleasant email. NOT! Apparently, there was a misunderstanding between some of the university faculty and me, and I have missed out on a week of required observation at a school.

Lovely.

So, here I am, flipping out. What do I do? Call Mama, of course! And Mama has news for me too.

She had taken Daddy to the ER. Remember how I said he had infection from his surgery? Well, the surgeon actually put a hole in his colon while he was under, and that’s what has been causing the amazingly disgusting and painful issues Daddy has been experiencing. I will spare you the details.

I ugly cried at this point, needless to say.

But believe it or not, there were some positives in the truck load of stress dropped on my lap.

1. Thankfully, Mama was fed up enough with the doctors to make them take a closer look at Daddy, and now he is at the hospital where he is getting proper care. They are talking about surgery to repair the hole, but right now they are nursing him to a more stable condition.

2. Luckily, yesterday was the first day of school for Cleveland (as opposed to last week where I am from), and there is a private school that starts even later this week. The education department at my school is allowing me to jump on board with that academy. But gez, did I not come prepared! I have no big girl clothes here. I just might have to splurge on a new teaching outfit. #hatelivingintwotowns

3. At least, I got flowers out of this bad day. Jonathan brought these to me after he got off of work yesterday.

I will say one thing! I’m glad I’m back to tracking with a daily time with Jesus, because God must of knew all this was around the corner; I have read a lot of scripture lately that kept my head on straight yesterday. Has scripture saved anyone else’s sanity?

Well, I will be letting ya’ll know how this week of unexpected observation goes!

Over-Due Love

Hey there, my sweet Reader-Friends!

I haven’t linked up with Jamie for What I’m Loving Wednesday in quite awhile. So, here’s to a long over due link-up!

WILW

I’m loving…that I have dinner plans with a sweet friend that I haven’t seen in about three-ish years, yet I see her almost daily in the lovely blogosphere!

Do you know this doll? Visit her at The Delighted and be prepared to be delighted yourself!

I’m loving…that my summer online classes are OVER. Done! A couple more A’s for the transcript and a little less stress for me! I am, however, still taking Biology and lab for another week, but it’s a pretty interesting course, so no excessive gripping here. #dork

I’m loving…that this time next week my feet will be planted in delta soil! I take my last test on Tuesday afternoon and then I ‘m headed to Cleveland for a few days to see my man and spruce up the house for the semester! The trim needs a clean coat of paint!

via

I’m loving…that tonight I get to gather with some Jesus-loving folks to prayer walk the schools in our county. We will be praying for all those involved in the school system, from the board members to the students and their parents.

“What if His people prayed?”

{If your in Desoto County and are interested in lifting up our schools, then feel free to join us tonight! We’re meeting in the Hernando Baptist Church fellowship hall @ 6pm and then heading out to the schools.)

A bunch of random loves, but nonetheless, lovely! What are you loving today?

Blueberry of Sorts

Hey, hey, Reader-Friends!

Ready for the first (very armature) installment to my "Thrifty Rich" series? Don't have a clue what I'm talking about? Jump over to this post.

So, I'm not wonderful at modeling...Jon isn't a professional photographer either, but we hope that the quality of the photos are not too disappointing. Besides it's about the outfits anyway.

Disclaimer: Sometimes I am the only one in the world that thinks what I put together is cute (and my mama, of course!), so if you are a fashion guru, this may not be the place for you. I probably break ten rules at once with some things I put on, but you all know my philosophy. I look in the mirror and ask myself: do I like this? Yes, okay *grabs keys and walks out the door*

I am calling this outfit "Blueberry of Sorts" because I have mixed and matched a few different shades of blue.
This is at a park called Bear Pen in Cleveland where I go to college.

I will remember to sit up straight next time...I think I was just freaking out a little nervous about trying to balance. You would too if you had seen some of the creatures living in that water!

Close-up

The outfit is a mixture of new (department store) and new old (thrift)
Gap striped tank-top (Goodwill, Hernando), Navy cover up ($8 Gordman's, Southaven), The Limited Jeans (Goodwill, Hernando), Earings ($8 Gordman's, Southaven), Necklace (Birthday gift from mama, Country Treasures, Hernando), Watch ($10, Wal-Mart, Hernando), Chocolate heels (Walmart)

And my favorite:

This guy has completely stolen my heart! Best. Dog. Ever. His name is Meeko (like the raccoon off of Disney's Pocahontas). He showed up at Jon's parents and just wouldn't leave. No one claimed him and now he is Jon's best friend.

Hope you all have a FANTASTIC weekend! My Yankee family is en route right this very minute from Wisconsin! It's going to get fun around here!

Blogging my Battles and Blessings,
Amber Marie
