Allow me to just fall jump into this post, Reader-Friends.
Spiritual rut. A valley. A pit. That slimy, smelly place where we have no desire to be in the Word of God or are wrapped up in a perpetual sin or are just exhausted on the inside and out. I think we all have been there, right? And if you can honestly say you haven’t, then I must risk receiving a scowl in my direction and say: it’s going to happen. Why? Because we are human—the most prized creation of God and therefore Satan’s target for destruction. Actually, it’s when we are really tracking with God that Satan is most aggravated and bent on tripping us, so that we tumble into that rut, valley, or pit.
Presently, in my life, I’m on the mountain top. My feet are more firmly planted than they have been in a long time. Yet, from too much experience, I well know to be ready and be on my guard for the slippery slopes of the evil one.
I hope you are not in a pit today, but if you are, don’t feel criticized here; I can only speak for myself, I suppose, but please know that others have been there. I want to go out on limb here and share a poem I wrote in the last year while I was clawing at the sides of a pit. I’m not a proud poet. In fact, I’m very unsure of my work, so please know this is something I don’t really want to share, but am feeling led to share.
(This probably isn’t the finished product, because I revise this just about every time I look at it, as I do with pretty much anything I write. #Englishmajorcurse)
Well for my Soul
By: Amber Marie Wright
“It is well with my soul,”
Sung so prettily from a tattered center.
A bow lacking reverence, yet racked
with shame.
And suffering from acute awareness
Of my insincerity – I’m infected.
With appearance much like First,
Helpless, begging for form—
a pile of dust.
Treading, steered by the wind
Over a landscape of rock and thorns,
Finding the punctures just,
with widened eye,
Come, your Blade of conviction.
Famine fevers my spirit faint.
Strong, Loving Rebuke
Begins to stitch at my core.
Gentle Will, begin—
restore me.
(Please respect me by not plagiarizing my original words. You may share these words as long as you attach my identity to them.)
My advice to those of you who are in a pit is to expect God to lift you out. Be willing to accept grace and mercy, because you are never going to get out of there by trying to do better yourself. You have to let God “restore” you with his supernatural touch on your heart. And when your feet are planted on solid ground again, remember a lesson learned-Satan will try to knock you right back in that pit, but you are stronger now…don’t go down without a fight!
I have a book suggestion for you (besides scripture, of course! That’s the most healing text you can read): Beth Moore’s Get Out of that Pit. Pretty straight forward title, isn’t it? That lady definitely knows how to pep-talk. I try not to follow any other human’s teachings religiously, but I really believe that God uses this woman as a godly commentator, a coach, and a mentor to complement his guidance in many young women’s lives. She may not be for everyone, but you could give her a chance!

His "strong, loving rebuke" is sweet. Even when it hurts. Thank you for this, today! God surely has used that sweet lady in my life... and that book brought me through some ugly days!

Much love and prayers for mumma and daddy! Good luck on the start of your new school year. I am also a big fan of Beth Moore !
