{Yawn} Oh hey, Reader-Friends!
How did you sleep last night? Well, I sure hope it was a more restful night for you than it was for me! Ya’ll, the single loudest thunderstorm in history hit my little college town in the wee hours of the morning.
You can imagine how thrilled I was to be wide-eyed at 4 a.m., especially since my alarm was scheduled to ring about an hour or so from then. God bless! My roommate wasn’t stirring, and Jon, whose bed is positioned against a window definitely was sound asleep, thus leaving my rant-texts un-answered. But lo and behold, after a quick glance at the online weather radar to see when I would be able to fall asleep again, I found just about the whole town (besides my roommate and boyfriend, of course) updating Fb and Twitter statuses. It’s always nice to feel that you’re not alone.
Here are a few anonymous storm statuses from last night:
4:30 AM & we're all awake. Loudest thunderstorm I've heard in a long time! Sounds like an African rainstick concert at a bowling tournament~
Lightning through my windows here is probably one of the scariest things ever! #needcurtains
I love storms but not when i'm trying to sleep and i have to be up soon anyway.
Not crazy about this thunderstorm right now!!
man it is poppin!
I love thunderstorms!!!!
And my bad attitude tweet:
Well, this blows. So much for a good nights sleep.
And my FB status:
Hello, Mr. Thunderstorm. I guess you haven't heard how I really needed sleep b/c tomorrow is the first day of school for the students AND I have to get up at the crack of dawn. You are SO rude! Meh.
And the very true status of one of my besties:
Jesus is LOUD tonight in Cleveland...at times like these, I'm very thankful that I'm on the same team of the God who is rattling my windows with thunder and illuminating my room with lightning..biggg God, litttttle human...wowww
Amen? In the middle of all my annoyance, I found a reason to praise God. That statement is actually a pretty good description of my life lately. It seems so common for us to forget the authority, and power, and presence of God in our lives when we become self-absorbed. Sometimes God sends a storm to wake us up. Big, big God. And he is there, in our storms, and in our sunshine.
"Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours." (1 Chronicles 29:11)
P.S. If you haven’t heard, this blog’s first birthday is in just a few days, and I’m giving away a gift. Please join the party and enter here!
